BOSTON, Mass. (October 10, 2009) - Stonehill College, ranked 22nd in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II women's poll, turned in a 23rd place finish, out of 49 teams from NCAA Divisions I, II and III at the New England Championships, hosted by the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association, at Franklin Park today.

Stonehill posted a 693 team score to finish second to the University of Massachusetts Lowell (645) among 11 Division II entries. Brown University won the team title with a score of 130, followed by Boston College (170) and Dartmouth College (201). Senior Corey Conner from the University of Maine won the individual title by completing the 5-kilometer course in 17:36.

Freshman Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) led Stonehill with a time of 19:21 to finish 92nd out of 327 individual competitors. Classmate Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury, Mass./Hudson Catholic) posted a time of 19:43 for 121st overall, while sophomore Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) took 146th in 19:51. All seven Skyhawk runners finished within a span of 1:13.

Stonehill is back in action on Sunday, October 25, when it competes in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.
