EASTON, Mass. (November 20, 2019) – Stonehill College volleyball's junior Sophia Poveda was named to the Northeast-10 Conference first team, as announced by the League on Wednesday.

Poveda is the first Skyhawk to be named to the first team since Emily Iverson '15 and Delia Phillips '15 in 2014, and she is also the 13th in program history. This is her first major award from the Conference.

The junior outside hitter has dominated the court this season for the Skyhawks, as she averaged career highs in five categories. She leads the team with her 2.86 kills per set and 260 kills. Her .218 hitting percentage is also a career high, along with her 2.67 digs per set and 243 digs this season.

Poveda's 0.36 aces per set leads the team this season as she has totaled 33 aces in 26 matches played. This season, she has totaled 17 matches with double-digit kills and 12 with double-digit digs, combining for 12 double-doubles. This brings her career total to 20 in three years in the Purple & White.

Poveda was named NE10 Player of the Week mid-season for assisting the team to three 3-1 victories, including wins over Saint Anselm College, Le Moyne College and the College of Saint Rose in route to a five-game win streak. She averaged 3.58 kills per set that week with only 10 errors with a .317 hitting percentage.

The Miami, Florida native has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll with Academic Distinction and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. She was named to the 2018 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar second team for her work in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. She graduated from Westminster Christian School and played club for the Miami Elite.

Stonehill concluded regular season play with a 16-9 overall mark and a 9-4 NE10 record for its first winning record since the 2014 season. The Skyhawks earned their ninth NE10 Tournament playoff berth in program history. Stonehill, as the third seed in the NE10 Tournament, hosted Le Moyne College, the six seed, for a NE10 Quarterfinal match, where the Skyhawks blanked the Dolphins, 3-0, and will face the second seed, American International College on Friday, November 22 for a semifinal match at 7:30 p.m. in Waltham, Massachusetts at the Dana
