Toegemann named Player of the Week for second time this season
Haedrich collects first Freshman of the Week honor

EASTON, Mass. (March 24, 2010) – Stonehill College swept the Northeast-10 Conference’s weekly awards for women’s tennis as announced by the league office this morning. Sophomore Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) was named the NE-10’s Player of the Week, while Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) earned Freshman of the Week honors.

Toegemann, named Player of the Week for the second time this season, led Stonehill to a 2-0 week by posting a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play. She won both matches at No. 2 singles for the Skyhawks, while also teaming up with partner Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug) for a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles. Toegemann posted a 6-3, 6-1 win against Le Moyne College in singles on Sunday, after her and Herchel won 8-2 at doubles. In Thursday’s win over Dowling College, ranked 10th in the region, Toegemann posted a 6-1, 6-1 singles win after winning 8-1 at doubles.

Toegemann has posted a 5-4 singles record this season, including a 4-1 mark in NE-10 play. She is 2-1 since moving back to No. 2 singles after splitting six matches at No. 1 singles. She is a combined 11-1 this year in doubles play, including a 3-1 clip with Herchel. Toegemann also earned NE-10 Player of the Week honors on October 6 after going a combined 8-1 for the Skyhawks over three events.

Toegemann, a first team All-Conference doubles and All-Rookie team performer as a freshman, boasts a career singles record of 17-10 to go with a 31-3 record in doubles play. She and Herchel are 23-3 over the last two years as a doubles team. Toegemann earned NE-10 Freshman of the Week honors four times last season.

Haedrich earns Freshman of the Week honors for the first time after also posting a combined 4-0 record in Stonehill’s two wins. She was 2-0 at sixth singles, while combining with classmate Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) to notch a pair of wins at third doubles. Haedrich dropped just one game over two matches last week, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win against Dowling, ranked tenth in the region, and picking up a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Le Moyne. She and Harrow defeated Le Moyne 8-0 and Dowling 8-1 for their two doubles triumphs.

Haedrich is 5-0 in singles play in her first collegiate season, including a 4-0 clip in NE-10 play. She and Harrow are 8-1 as a doubles tandem in their first collegiate year, including a 6-0 clip at No. 3 and a 4-0 mark in Conference play.

Stonehill (8-1, 5-0 NE-10), winners of 17-straight NE-10 dual matches, is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Saint Michael’s College for a Conference dual match on Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
