Former Merrimack standout and Mount Ida assistant joins Skyhawks staff
EASTON, Mass. (June 28, 2012) – Stonehill College has named Amanda Shannon as assistant women's basketball coach. The announcement was made by head coach Trisha Brown and confirmed by Brendan Sullivan, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the College.
"We are thrilled to have Amanda Shannon join our staff at Stonehill," said Brown. "Amanda was a great competitor and leader as a student-athlete in the Northeast-10 Conference. She was an All-Conference player who I have always had a great deal of respect for. There is no doubt that our staff and players will benefit from, not only, her knowledge of the NE-10, but also, her work ethic and phenomenal personality."
Shannon comes to Stonehill after spending the 2011-12 season as assistant coach at Mount Ida College in Newton. She assisted coach Jack Casey in all aspects of recruiting, team budget and organization of team practice and game plans. Shannon compiled opponent scouting reports, organized guard specific practice plans and oversaw the team's academic support program. The Mustangs posted a 14-12 mark last winter, earning a trip to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament. Two student-athletes earned All-GNAC honors.
Prior to Mount Ida, Shannon served as assistant coach for the 2010-11 season at her alma mater, Merrimack College. She engaged in practice planning and preparation, broke down game film and helped organize and track the Warriors community service engagements. She helped guide the team to a spot in the NE-10 tournament that season. Shannon has also gained coaching experience as head coach of the Mass Lady Warriors AAU program, while also working as an assistant with the Mass Huskies AAU and serving as camp counselor at several area summer camps.
Shannon is a 2009 graduate of Merrimack, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies. She was a four year letterwinner for the Warriors, serving as captain her senior season. Shannon was a two-time All-Northeast-10 performer, earning second team honors as a senior after collecting third team accolades her junior season. She finished her career with over 1,000 career points. Shannon was her team's representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as treasurer, for three years.
Stonehill finished with a 13-14 overall record in 2011-12, including a 9-13 clip in NE-10 play to finish ninth in the NE-10 standings. The Skyhawks made their NE-10 record-sharing 31st-straight trip to the NE-10 tournament.
