Siaba Leads Men's Track & Field on Opening Day of NE10 Indoor Championships

Brockton, Massachusetts, sophomore takes silver medal in long jump and sits second through four events of heptathlon

DORCHESTER, Mass. (February 20, 2020) –Stonehill College men's track & field program posted three top five finishes, with sophomore Michel-Ange Siaba earning All-Conference honors to highlight day one of the 2020 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center today.

Highlights

  • Siaba earned All-NE10 honors for the first time and set a school-record with his second place finish in the long jump. He cleared a distance of 23-feet, 1.75-inches on his second attempt, picking up eight team points. Siaba broke the previous school-record of 22-feet, 10.75-inches set by Tyler Guilmette, '09 at the University of Rhode Island. Freshman Cameron Bernard also scored for the Skyhawks with his sixth-place finish in a personal-best 21-11.75. Classmate Sam Anderson finished 17th with a distance of 20-00.50.
  • Siaba also sits second out of 14 competitors at the end of day one of the heptathlon with 2,769 points – 37 points behind leader Philip Quaye (2,806) from Southern Connecticut State University.
    • Siaba finished first in the long jump in the event with a distance of 21-feet, 11.75-inches for 743 points.
    • Siaba also finished second in the 60-meter dash in a personal-best 7.30-seconds for 779 points, as well as the shot put with a personal-best distance of 39-feet, 2.50-inches for another 603 points.
    • He finished the four events on day one with a fifth-place finish in the high jump, clearing a personal-best height of 5-feet, 11.50-inches for 644 points.

    Bernard also placed fourth out of ten entries in the high jump final, clearing a personal-best height of 6-feet, 1.25-inches on his first attempt, earning five points for Stonehill. He also ran the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 10.05-seconds.
  • Senior Jeff Pichie finished fourth out of 28 entries in the 5000-meter run finals, narrowly missing the podium and All-NE10 honors for the event. He finished in a personal-best 15:06.53 and earned five points for Stonehill, while sophomore Shane Braz finished ninth in a personal-best 15:31.75. Senior Chris Gendron gave the Skyhawks three runners in the top 15, finishing 13th in 15:40.44.
  • Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay finished sixth in 10:36.97. Senior Christopher Lanahan, junior Chris McCaffrey, sophomore Jack Bowers and freshman Noah Drapeau combined to earn three points for the Skyhawks in the final. Lanahan ran the opening 1200-meter leg in 3:14.7, before Bowers ran the 400-meter leg in 50.3-seconds, with Drapeau completing the 800-meter leg in 2:02.6 and then McCaffrey finished the mile anchor leg in 4:29.5.
  • Senior Collin Kuchachik and freshman Jake Dwyer both qualified for tomorrow's 60-meter high hurdles final. Kuchachik placed third in his heat and posted the sixth-fastest time in the field of 19 hurdlers overall in 8.82-seconds, while Dwyer finished fourth in his heat and posted the eighth-fastest time overall in 8.830-seconds. Dwyer also placed 17th out of 25 entries in the 60-meter dash prelims in 7.24-seconds.
  • Sophomore Evan Kennedy qualified for tomorrow's 800-meter run finals with his time of 1:58.61 to finish third in his section and claim the final of the eight spots in tomorrow's final. Classmate Nickolas McNamee placed 17th in 2:08.51.
  • Stonehill finished the first day of competition in fifth place in the team standings with 24 points. 14-time NE10 Indoor Champions Southern Connecticut State University leads the team standings with 90 points, with American International College in a distant second with 31 and Assumption College third with 28.

  • Sophomore Anthony Magazzu narrowly missed qualifying for tomorrow's 400-meter dash finals with his ninth-place finish in today's prelims in a personal-best 50.15-seconds – just 0.06 out of the top eight. Freshman Jeremiah Kidd-Taylor placed 18th out of the 21 entries in 52.37-seconds.
  • Sophomore Robert Lisi placed 13th out of 20 entries in the weight throw, posting a distance of 40-feet, even. Senior William Lyons Jr. placed 16th at 37-02.50.
  • Freshman Nate Skopas placed 20th out of 22 competitors in the 200-meter dash prelims in 24.14-seconds.

The NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships continue tomorrow at the Reggie Lewis Center, starting with day two of the heptathlon beginning at 11 a.m., with the field events commencing at noon and track events at 12:30 p.m.
