#24 Le Moyne Rallies Past Stonehill, 2-1
Dolphins erase halftime deficit with two second half goals
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 24, 2009) - Le Moyne College, ranked 24th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, scored two second half goals to erase a first half deficit and claim a 2-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex this afternoon.
Sophomore Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) set up both Le Moyne goals, including the match-winner by senior back Davide DiPaola (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) with just 11:40 left in regulation. DiPaola headed in a Carr free kick at the top of the six.
The goal capped a Le Moyne second half rally which started when Carr set up sophomore Greg Pardo (O'Fallen, Mo./Duchesne) from close range 4:10 into the second half to level the match at 1-1.
Stonehill opened the scoring with eight minutes left in the first half when sophomore Ross McWilliams (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) squared a ball back from the end line to classmate Michael Bridges (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) for his second goal of the season.
Senior Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) made three second half saves to preserve the win in goal for Le Moyne. Junior Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) stopped five shots Stonehill. The Dolphins finished with a 13-8 edge in shots for the match, with both teams taking three corner kicks.
Stonehill (7-8-1, 3-8-1 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Michael's College on Senior Day to close out the season at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne (13-2-2, 9-2-1 NE-10) visits The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
