#17 Women's Cross Country Wins Kutztown DII/DIII Challenge for Second Straight Year

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 19, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 17 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Poll and first in the East Region, cruised to its second consecutive team title at the Kutztown University Division II/III Challenge this morning in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

Stonehill placed all five of its scoring runners inside the top-10 (excluding KU Alumni) en route to a score of 33. Shippensburg (Pa.) University (73), American International College (101), host Kutztown (111) and Lock Haven (Pa.) University rounded out the top-five in the ten team field.

Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) who paced the Skyhawks at this event last fall with her fourth place finish, accomplished the same feat today, claiming the top overall spot out of 94 entries with a time of 22:41.8 on the six-kilometer Farm Course.

Borofski was joined in the top-10 by classmate Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) and freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas), who finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Buonfiglio clocked in at 23:33.8 while Cyr, who was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week following her third place finish at the season-opening Shacklette Invitational, earned a time of 23:34.6.

Sophomore Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) was the fourth Skyhawk to cross the finish line, doing so in 24:06.7, good for tenth overall. Junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), the last scoring Stonehill runner, followed in 11th (24:10.5), while classmate Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) finished 12th in 24:18.8.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed 16th with a time of 24:33.2. Classmates Anna DeVitto (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) and Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Masachusetts/Marlborough) finished 21st (24:46.9) and 23rd (24:56.4), respectively, while freshman Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed 30th, clocking in at 25:10.0.

Also competing for the Skyhawks was sophomore Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) and freshman Adrienne Santoro (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan). Hersom finished 35th overall in 25:22.0, and Santoro rounded out the 12 Stonehill entries with her 54th place finish in 26:24.5.

Stonehill will be back in action next Saturday, September 26th at the Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University at Stanley Park in New Britain, Connecticut.
