Skyhawks Race Past Greyhounds In Four Sets

Worcester, Mass. – The Skyhawks moved one
step closer to berth in the Northeast-10 tournament with a tough
four set victory against the Greyhounds of Assumption on Monday
night to improve to 19-10 on the season.
Stonehill started off sluggish, falling behind early but manage to
knott the set up at 20 before dropping five of the final seven
points to lose the first set 25-22.
The Skyhawks responded in the second, as they took a 8-7 lead and
didn’t allow the Greyhounds within two the rest of the way
winning the second set 25-22.
In the third set Stonehill didn’t allow Assumption to take a
lead and went on a 14- 3 midway through the set to cruise to a
25-14 victory.
In the fourth set the Skyhawks took the lead for good at 7-6 as
they used a match 16 kills to win the set 25-21 and take the match
three sets to one.
Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) led Stonehill with 51
assists and 18 digs, while freshman Michelle
Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif.) recorded 17 kills for her
third straight match with at least 15 kills and also was second on
the team with 10 digs.
Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) and
Anna Barczak (Ridgefield, Conn.) had 13 and nine
kills respectively.
With the win Stonehill moves into sole possession of seventh place
in the NE-10 with a 7-6 record and is one win away from their first
20 win season since 1997.
The Skyhawks play their final match of the regular season when
they host Franklin Pierce, who is currently ranked sixth in the
conference, on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m.
