Skyhawks Drop Season Opener, 3-0

New Haven, Conn. -  The University of Bridgeport got 11 kills from Olga Sidorova and 30 assists from Maryanne Stafford as they knocked off Stonehill, 3-0 in the Skyhawks season opener at the Baden Invitational hosted at the University of New Haven.

Playing for the first time under new head coach Eric Snyder, the Skyhawks dropped games 30-23, 30-17 and 30-28. Junior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) and classmate Heidi Woerner (North Kingstown, R.I.) each recorded seven kills, while Woerner added six block assists.

Freshmen Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) and Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H.) each made solid contributions in their first collegiate match. Wirth handed out 18 assists and Noonan chipped in with four kills and two block assists.

The Purple Knights improved to 4-2, while the Skyhawks will look to register their first win of the season later when they face Invitational host, New Haven at Charger Gymnasium.
