Skyhawks Split A Pair At Home

Easton, Mass. - Stonehill earned a split of its two matches on Saturday, a 3-0 win over St. Anselm and a 3-2 loss at the hands of Assumption.

The Skyhawks got another dominating performance from junior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.), who registered 19 kills in the 3-0 victory over Saint Anselm and 17 more in the loss to the Greyhounds.

Stonehill rolled through the first match in the win over St. Anselm, hitting a season-best .480, taking a 30-13 decision. The win started a strong statistical day for freshman Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.), who led the team in both assists (45) and digs (12) in the win. She added 49 assists and nine more digs in the loss to Assumption.

Samantha Marcin (Somers, N.Y.) had 42 digs in the two matches, including 30 in the Assumption loss.

The Skyhawks were poised to take the match with the Greyhounds, but a rally by Assumption forced a fifth game, which they won, 15-12. Assumption was led by Marilisa Strand who had 10 kills, 53 assists and five digs.

The win moves Assumption to 9-3, while Stonehill falls to 3-10 with the loss.
