Skyhawks Rally Comes Up Short

 Katherine Masson had a match-high 20 kills in the 3-2 loss to St. Rose.

 

Albany, N.Y. - After falling behind 2-0, Stonehill rallied to knot the match at 2-2, but eventually fell to host St. Rose, 3-2, at Nolan Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Golden Knights posted back-to-back 30-17 wins before the Skyhawks earned a 30-28 win and a thrilling 32-30 decision in game four setting up the deciding frame.

St. Rose, however, took game five, 15-13, to improve their record to 11-8 overall and 4-3 in Northeast-10 action. Stonehill meanwhile drops to 6-14 and 3-5 in Conference action.

Junior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) led the Skyhawks with 20 kills on .263 hitting. Freshman Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in with nine kills while classmate Michelle Jaques (Medfield, Mass.) had a team-high 16 digs.

The Golden Knights, who hit .283 for the match, had four players record double digit kills, led by Stephanie Brink's 17 kills and six digs. Kelly Ryan added 14 kills and five solo blocks for the victors, while Mary German recorded a match-high 26 digs.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday for two matches - the first beginning at noon versus Le Moyne followed by a 2:30 meeting with Roberts Wesleyan.
