Skyhawks Take 3-0 Win Over St. Michael's

North Easton, Mass. - Behind 18 kills from Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) and 14 more from freshman Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H.), Stonehill defeated visiting St. Michael's, 3-0 in a Northeast-10 volleyball matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Skyhawks rolled to victory in the first game, collecting a 30-15 win before a tightly contested second game was up for grabs until the last point. The game saw ties at 12, 14 17 and 18 when Stonehill got some distance at 26-24. The Purple Knights then ran off four straight points to take a 28-24 lead. The Skyhawks responded and knotted the game at 28 and again at 29, 30 and 31. Stonehill finally put the game away at 33-31 when Kristin Hordern (Swansea, Mass.) posted her only kill of the match. Hordern added 14 digs for Stonehill, who evened the Northeast-10 record at 2-2.

Freshman Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) had a match high 45 assists and added nine digs, while fellow freshmen Michelle Jacques (Medfield, Mass.) added 15 digs.

The third game was even at 19 when the Skyhawks raced ahead for a 27-21 lead. The Purple Knights, led by Lindsey Frazier's nine kills, closed the gap to 28-26 before Stonehill wrapped up the game and match with a 30-26 victory.

The Skyhawks held the edge in most categories, including an 8-0 margin in blocks. Stonehill, now 4-11 overall, returns to the court on Monday when they play host to Post at Merkert Gym at 7 p.m.
