Borofski Named NE-10 Track Rookie of the Week

Plymouth, Mass. native places eighth in 1500-meter run at Skyhawk Invitational with a time of 4:46.50

EASTON, Mass. (April 30, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference women's track Rookie of the Week, it was announced yesterday by the league office.

Borofski finished eighth overall in the 1500-meter run at last Friday's Skyhawk Invitational, hosted by Stonehill, with a time of 4:46.50. Borofski's effort earned one point towards Stonehill's team score, as the Skyhawks won the meet for the first time in its seven-year existence following three consecutive runner-up finishes. She posted the second-fastest time among freshmen in the event, behind only Alexa Pelletier of the University of Rhode Island, who placed third.

This marks the first weekly award Borofski has received from the NE-10 for track & field, although she was honored once during Stonehill's cross country season. Borofski played a key role in Stonehill's fifth consecutive NE-10 and East Region championships last fall. She earned All-Conference second team accolades after placing ninth at the NE-10 Championships with a personal best mark of 18:47. Two weeks later, Borofski collected All-East Region honors for finishing 11th in 23:06.7 at the East Region Championships. Overall, Borofski posted three top-10 finishes during her freshman campaign, and she was named the NE-10 Cross Country Rookie of the Year on October 27th. She wrapped up her freshman season by competing at the NCAA Championships in Spokane, Wash., where she placed 220th in 24:26.2.

Borofski's award breaks up a streak of four consecutive NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors for freshman Carly Muscaro of Merrimack College. Stonehill has now garnered two of the six women's track Rookie of the Week awards for the 2014 outdoor season, as freshman Alexandra Buonfiglio was recognized on March 25th.

A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track, earning All-State honors in cross country each of her four years at Plymouth North. She served as captain of both track and cross country teams as a junior and senior, and was a New Balance Outdoor Nationals competitor in the sprint medley as a senior.

Stonehill, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, will be back in action next weekend, as the Skyhawks are set to host the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at W.B. Mason Stadium. This will mark the second time that Stonehill has hosted the NE-10 Championship, after doing so in 2010.
