Anderson Named NE-10 Track Rookie Of The Week

EASTON, Mass. (April 30, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman distance runner Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Track Rookie of the Week, it was announced earlier today.

Anderson placed ninth overall in the 1,500-meter run among 31 competitors on Sunday at the Brown Springtime Open Invitational with a time of 4:41.84, a new personal best. Anderson finished third overall in the second heat of the event to surpass her previous personal best of 4:46.15 which was set on April 14 at the Skyhawk Invitational on the campus of Stonehill College.

Anderson, who earns her first career NE-10 weekly award for the Skyhawks, comes to Stonehill College after a standout four-year career at Manchester High School. Anderson served as captain for the cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field teams as a senior and earned All-Academic honors in all three sports for four years. She also garnered All-State and All-Courant honors in cross country and won the Manchester High School Most Outstanding Runner award in 2009 and 2010. In her senior season, Anderson collected the Coaches Award and is the school record holder in Distance Medley Relay and 1,600-meters with a time of 5:13.19.

Anderson has competed in six events this season including the 1,500-meter run (three times), 3,000-meter run, 800-meter run and the 4x800-meter run. Anderson currently ranks fifth overall in the NE-10 in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:41.84 and 12th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.50 which she ran at the Holy Cross Crusades on April 21.

Stonehill returns to action on Friday, May 4 at the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut.
