Wilson earns All-New England honors in the 800 meter run, Ferrarini provisionally qualifies for NCAA's in one mile run

Sarah Wilson earned All-New England honors with her sixth place finish in the 800 meters.

BOSTON, Mass. (February 25, 2012) – The Stonehill College 4x800 meter relay team set a new school record and freshman Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) earned All-New England status in the 800 meter run as the women's indoor track and field team wrapped up day two at the New England Championships, hosted by Boston University (BU), at the BU Track and Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central), junior Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic), sophomore Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) and freshman Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) shattered the school record in the 4x800 meter run with a time of 9:27.42.

Carrier ran the lead leg in 2:20, Veit posted a split of 2:23, Ulcena ran a split of 2:22 and Rielly closed out the relay with a time of 2:21. The quartet broke the previous record of 9:29.08 set on February 18 by senior Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson), Rielly, sophomore Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and Wilson at the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Championship meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

In the 800 meter run, Wilson finished sixth overall with a time of 2:16.16 in the event to earn All-New England honors which is awarded to the top-eight finishers. Wilson qualified for the finals of the 800 meter run with a school record time of 2:15.45 on day one at the New England Championships.

Senior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) broke the five-minute barrier in the one mile run and provisionally qualified for the NCAA's with a personal-best time of 4:59.12, good enough for 12^th place overall.

Junior Katie Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) posted a time of 9.31 seconds in the semifinal round of the 60 meter hurdles. Bernazzani, who did not advance to the finals, finished 12^th overall in the event. Bernazzani advanced to the semifinal round of the 60 meter hurdles by running a school record time of 9.21 seconds on day one at the New England Championships.

Stonehill's provisional qualifiers await word for the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato (Myers Fieldhouse; Mankato, Minn.), on Friday, March 9 at noon.
