Brown registered four saves
EASTON, Mass. (October 25, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team wrapped up its season with a 1-0 loss to Bentley University Thursday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.
Stonehill (7-11-0, 5-9-0 NE10) saw sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) record four saves, as Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) kept the ball out of the net as well with a save late in the second half.
Bentley (7-7-1, 5-7-1 NE10) saw Carly Kohler record her second goal of the season, while Stephanie Helin tallied the helper in the victory. Goalkeeper Kat Hassapis recorded four saves for the Falcons.
Bentley kicked off the game with an early corner in the second minute of the game, as Brandi McDonald struck the ball for the team's first shot on goal. Brown was able to cover the ball and get it out the Skyhawks to take it down the field.
The Falcons outshot the Skyhawks 4-2 by the end of the first half, while both teams tallied four corner kicks a piece.
In the first few minutes of the second half, a foul was called on Stonehill inside the 18-yard box for a dangerous play and Bentley was rewarded a free kick. Helin touched the ball to Kohler who launched the ball to the right upper 90 just nicking the inside part of the post for a 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons tried again in the 66th minute, as McKenna Hiller struck a ball inside the 18-yard box off a corner kick from Emma Guccione, but Shannahan stood inside the six-yard box and blocked it from crossing the line.
With determination, the Skyhawks continued battling in the second frame. Senior Meredith Moore (Salem, Connecticut/East Lyme) strung together a few shots in the late minutes of the game that sailed just past the posts. Both Shannahan and junior Courtney Campo (Quincy, Massachusetts/North Quincy) set up in front of the net as one shot was saved by Hassapis and the other drifted just left of the post.
Stonehill concluded its season with a 7-11-0 overall record and a 5-9-0 NE10 record. The Skyhawks are ranked ninth in conference standings, just shyly missing out on playoffs.
