Indianapolis, Ind. - With a combined winning percentage of nearly 85 percent, the Stonehill women's and men's basketball teams are No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, in the East Region, following the first release of the NCAA's Division II Regional rankings which were announced on Wednesday evening.

The women, who sit at 17-3 overall following their dramatic quadruple 87-82 overtime win over Bentley, are atop the women's region and are followed by Franklin Pierce and Molloy of the East Coast Conference. Stonehill has already defeated both teams this season but a rematch with the Ravens looms on February 4.

Other Northeast-10 teams Bentley (sixth), Pace (eighth), New Haven (ninth) and Saint Rose (tenth) are joined by Holy Family (fourth) of the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference and Dowling (seventh) of the ECC.

The men, who had their 10-game winning streak snapped with a 73-61 loss to Bentley on Wednesday, are second behind the ECC's C.W. Post, who remained unbeaten following a 67-61 win over Adelphi earlier this week.

With a four-way tie at the top of the Northeast-10 standings, Bentley (third), Merrimack (fourth) and UMass-Lowell (fifth) round out the region's top five. Lurking behind the first five in sixth place is another Northeast-10 team - Assumption, who is just a game outside of the Northeast-10 first-place jumble.

The regional rankings, which will be released every Wednesday through March 4th, assist the national basketball committee's with selecting the 64-team field for the NCAA Basketball Tournament as well as the eight regional host sites for the first three rounds.
