Skyhawks Planning To “Think Pink” Feb. 9

Stonehill One Of 600 Teams Planning To "Think Pink"

North Easton, Mass. - Stonehill College is one of over 600 schools that has already committed to participating in the 2008 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Think Pink" program that will take place during the week of February 8-17.

The "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Stonehill's celebration, which will feature free pizza for all students in attendance, several giveaways, including an IPod raffle, will take place during the Saturday, February 9 doubleheader versus Bentley.

"Everyone involved in the women's basketball program at Stonehill feels very lucky to be able to help with the WBCA's Think Pink initiative," said women's head coach Trisha Brown.

The College's athletic administration is hoping that everyone will arrive dressed in pink, a gesture that will symbolize the solidarity of the community and the athletic program's fervor for the event.

Schools have chosen to participate in a variety of different ways. Some ideas for involvement include ordering pink uniforms, inviting breast cancer survivors to the game, wearing pink shooting shirts, asking all fans to wear pink, and raffling off pink basketballs to raise money for a charity.

Following the 2008 WBCA's "Think Pink" week, the WBCA will collect photos and video footage and tally the total number of fans reached and donations collected during the initiative.

"The WBCA has done an amazing job in helping to raise breast cancer awareness at so many levels, and we are happy to assist in these efforts," Brown continued. "We hope that everyone will join us on February 9th to ‘Think Pink'."
