Miami Shores, Fla. - Behind double-doubles from senior guard Erika Stupinski (Topsham, Maine) and junior forward Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.), No. 16 Stonehill secured a 72-53 win over Gannon (7-4) in their second game at the Cruzin' Classic on the campus of Barry University on Thursday evening.

With the score tied at 32 to begin the second half, the Skyhawks went on a backbreaking 15-0 run in the first four minutes of the half, keyed by two Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) three pointers and another from Bethany Tighe (North Easton, Mass.).

After a three-pointer by Gannon's Kristina Freeman snapped the Stonehill scoring spree, the Skyhawks embarked on another run, this time an 8-0 spurt to give them a 55-35 lead with 11:37 remaining.

Stonehill shot 55 percent from the field for the game and held the Golden Knights to 35 percent, while also holding a 37-25 edge on the glass.

The Skyhawks also regained their form from behind the arc, connecting on 8-of-18 attempts after going 9-for-41 in their previous two games.

Stupinski meanwhile had more assists (12) than Gannon had as a team, as Stonehill handed out 21 overall. She finished with 11 points five rebounds and four steals as well, for her second career double-double.

Simonds recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Tighe took game high honors with 14 points. Both Kristen McWhirter (Melvin Village, N.H.) and Methven chipped in with nine points.

With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 10-2 overall, and won't return to action until January 2 when they play only their third home game of the season against St. Anselm.
