FINAL: SAINT ROSE 64, STONEHILL 59

EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Linsey Onishuk (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as 25th-ranked Saint Rose remained unbeaten with a 64-59 Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball victory over 15th-ranked Stonehill Thursday evening at Merkert Gymnasium.

The visiting Golden Knights (8-0, 5-0 Northeast-10) used an 8-0 run early in the second half to turn a three-point halftime deficit (35-32) into a six-point advantage (48-42) on a lay-in by senior Mary Lewis (Roxbury, Mass.) with 12:50 to play in the contest. Saint Rose held a seven point edge (53-46) with 10:45 remaining when the two teams entered a stretch where neither scored for the next 6:45 of action, as a three-pointer by senior Courtney Ludwig (Shatfsbury, Vt.) with four minutes remaining extended the visitors' lead to 10 (56-46). The host Skyhawks (7-2, 3-2 Northeast-10) whittled a nine-point deficit with 3:09 left to just a bucket with 29 seconds remaining on a three-pointer by freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.), but free throws by Lewis and Ludwig helped ice the triumph for Saint Rose.

Ludwig finished with 12 points and four steals in the win for the Golden Knights, who also received 10 points each from juniors Emily Gottstein (Albany, N.Y.) and Suzana Sormaz (Kovin, Serbia). Senior Ariel Davis (Marlton, N.J.) grabbed 10 rebounds for Saint Rose, which shot 36 percent from the field and canned eight three-pointers while holding a 47-43 rebounding advantage.

Methven netted 15 points in the setback for Stonehill, which also received 11 points and nine rebounds from senior Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.). Senior Caitlin Kennedy (Baldwin, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds for the Skyhawks, who shot 33 percent from the floor overall (including 23 percent in the second half alone) and just 24 percent from behind the arc. The hosts hurt themselves with 20 turnovers that were converted to 13 Saint Rose points on the night as well.

Stonehill hosts Bentley in a Northeast-10 outing on Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 1:30 p.m., while Saint Rose hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 match-up on Saturday afternoon in Albany, N.Y. at 1:30.
