Northeast-10 Weekly Notes:

STONEHILL: Stonehill, ranked 11th in last week's USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II national poll for the second straight week, ascended to the top spot in the first NCAA Northeast Regional rankings released on Wednesday, as the Skyhawks earned the top position in the NCAA Regional rankings for the first time in 11 years. Both the Stonehill women's and men's basketball squads sit atop their respective NCAA regional polls. Stonehill's current 18-game winning streak is the second longest such skein in school history, topped only by a 19-game win streak that came during the 1993-94 NCAA Elite Eight season. The Skyhawks are off to their best Northeast-10 start since that same campaign with 13 league triumphs to date. Junior F Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.) tied her career-high scoring mark with 30 points in Saturday's win over Merrimack, as she also netted 30 points on November 22nd against Bentley. Collins pulled down a career-best 16 boards on Saturday against Merrimack in leading Stonehill to its 50th win in 57 series meetings with the Warriors...Freshman F Kelsey Simonds (Bridgewater, Mass.) is featured in the January 23rd edition of Sports Illustrated in the magazine's "Faces In The Crowd" column. A four-time selection as the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week this season, Simonds is the fourth Stonehill student-athlete to be featured in SI's "Faces In The Crowd" in the last three years. Saturday's triumph over Merrimack was the 90th career victory for Skyhawk mentor Trisha Brown. Stonehill is now 57-1 in its last 58 contests when holding an opponent to 59 or fewer points, a streak that dates back to February 2001. The Skyhawks are 143-35 (.803) at Merkert Gymnasium since 1994 and have won 75 of their last 105 outings (.714) since November 2002. Monday's triumph over Saint Anselm was Stonehill's seventh straight over the Hawks and 44th in 63 series meetings between the teams. The Skyhawks' next four contests will come against teams ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Northeast Regional play, as Stonehill will square off this week with #7 Bentley and #3 Southern Connecticut before taking on #5 Pace and #9 Saint Rose the following week...
