Baldasare Named NE-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Mansfield, Massachusetts, junior All-American earns weekly honor for first time

EASTON, Mass. (December 7, 2015) – Stonehill College junior All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Male Track Athlete of the Week by the league office today.

Baldasare, who earns Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his career, was part of two first place finishes for Stonehill as it opened its indoor season at the fourth annual UMass Boston Indoor Open at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center on Saturday. He won the 400-meter dash in 51.05-seconds to lead a group of three Skyhawks in the top 11 of the event. Baldasare also ran the lead leg for Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay which posted a first place finish in 3:28.17.

Baldasare is a six time All-Region performer by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) who was part of Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team which finished seventh at the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with a time of 9:58.33, running the 400-meter leg. Of his six All-Region honors, two have come for indoor track, collecting the honors for the DMR and with the 4x400-meter relay team which won the NE-10 Championship in 2014.

Baldasare, who collected three NE-10 Track Rookie of the Week selections as a freshman, is a two-time All-Northeast-10 Conference performer during the indoor season and two-time All-New England honoree. He has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll two semesters. He is a member of Stonehill's school-record indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay teams and owns a personal-best indoor 400-meter time of 49.72-seconds at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on February 7, 2014.

Stonehill closes out the first semester schedule this Saturday when it competes at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Center at 3 p.m.
