Grubel earns Track Rookie of the Week honors, while Staley collects Field accolades

Grubel has earned Track Rookie of the Week honors for the second-straight week and third time overall, including the indoor season, while Staley has received his second-straight Field Rookie of the Week award to go with four indoor honors during the winter. The duo helped lead Stonehill to the team title for the fourth-straight year at its Skyhawks Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday.

Grubel was part of two event wins and three top two finishes overall with season-best times in all three events on Saturday. He won the 100-meter dash in 10.89-seconds, leading a field of 29 sprinters in the event and also posted a second place finish (in a field of 43) in the 200-meter dash with his time of 22.22-seconds. Grubel ran the third leg on Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay team that raced to a first place finish in 42.61-seconds.

Grubel and the 4x100-meter relay team have won back to back events after placing first at the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell the week prior (42.69). He also placed sixth in the 100 (11.14) and ninth in the 200 (22.65) after also posting a pair of ninth place showings in those two events at the UConn Invitational to open the outdoor season.

Grubel posted a first place finish in the 200-meter dash at the Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis during the indoor season, with a time of 23.64-seconds, and his season-best time came at the New England Championships at 22.55-seconds to place 22^nd. He posted a season-best time of 6.68-seconds in the 55-meter dash final at the New Hampshire Tri-Meet in January and his season-best 60-meter dash time of 7.26-seconds was good for 12^th at the Charley Torpey Memorial at Rhode Island. Grubel is also a member of the football team at Stonehill.

Staley posted a second place finish to teammate, junior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High), in the high jump on Saturday, while also placing eighth in the long jump. He bettered his NCAA provisional qualifying height in the high jump as he cleared 6-feet, 10.75-inches, marking the 11^th-best jump in Division II so far this season. Staley also cleared 20-feet, 5.75-inches in the long jump.

Staley, who also collected NE-10 Field Athlete of the Week honors a week ago, won the high jump at the George Davis Invitational, with a winning height of 6-feet, 8.75-inches. It marked the first time Staley placed higher than Thomas head to head in a competition as the former indoor high jump national champion finished third.

Staley earned All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following his first collegiate indoor season in the high jump with his season-best leap of 6-feet, 10.25-inches at the Charley Torpey Memorial Invitational that provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and finished ranked 17^th nationally. He also earned All-New England honors with his fourth place finish at the New England Championships (6-8.25). Staley placed fourth in the Skyhawks first outdoor meet of the season at the University of Connecticut with his leap of 6-6.36.

Stonehill, ranked fourth in this week's USTFCCCA East Regional rankings index, will split its squad between two events this weekend as the Skyhawks will participate in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday and Saturday as well as the Holy Cross Crusades in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday.
