EASTON, Mass. (December 22, 2011) - Former Stonehill College men's tennis standout Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) has been named assistant men's and women's tennis coach at the University of Chicago, it was announced recently by Chicago Director of Athletics Tom Weingartner.

Fayed joins the staff of Interim Head Coach, Taka Bertrand at Chicago, who was named to that position in August following a two-year stint as assistant coach.

Fayed has served as the assistant head tennis professional at the International Tennis Hall of Fame since the summer of 2010.

"I'm very excited for Tim," said Stonehill head men's tennis coach Peter Miller. "He is uniquely qualified for this position given his high level of playing skills coupled with his understanding of the game and how to teach it. Tim's Stonehill education has already begun to serve him well. "

Fayed was a standout for four years at Stonehill, earning the College's Fr. William Gartland, CSC, Male Student-Athlete Award at the conclusion of his collegiate career. He was a six-time All-Northeast-10 Conference performer for the Skyhawks in singles and doubles play, earning NE-10 Player of the Year honors in 2009 when he posted a 21-1 overall singles record, including a perfect 10-0 clip in leading Stonehill to the NE-10 regular season and tournament championships. Fayed posted a career record of 61-16 (.792) in singles play and was a combined 63-25 (.716) in doubles play over his four years.

Fayed earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Stonehill in 2011.

Chicago, which opens its 2012 campaign at Kalamazoo College on Jan. 29, has finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Championship each of the past three years.
