Colella Tabbed As NE-10 Rookie Of The Week

Keeper makes three saves, sets up goal in win over New Haven

EASTON, Mass. (September 19, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Rookie of the Week by the league office, it was announced earlier today.

Colella helped Stonehill to a 2-1 win over New Haven last Tuesday turning away three shots to improve his record to 2-0-0 on the season. Colella also picked up an assist in the victory for the Skyhawks setting up the first goal of the contest at 8:18.

Early in the first half, the freshman keeper jumpstarted the offense punting a ball from the opposite end of the field that senior captain Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) headed for a through-ball to forward Mark Bolster (Narragansett, R.I.) setting up a breakaway chance. After Bolster gained possession, the senior forward rifled a shot into the top right corner of the net for an early 1-0 lead. 

In two games played (both starts) this season, Colella has allowed just one goal for a goals against average of 0.50. The freshman keeper has also made five saves total for a save percentage of .833.

Stonehill (3-2, 1-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday, September 21 at home in NE-10 Conference action versus Southern New Hampshire, ranked #4 overall in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National poll, at Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m.
