Hebert Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Rockland, Mass., native is second student-athlete from Stonehill to receive award

EASTON, Mass. (March 24, 2011) – Stonehill College senior Tyler Hebert (Rockland, Mass./Sacred Heart) from the men's soccer team has become just the second student-athlete in school history to earn a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He is one of 58 fall student student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III to receive the $7,500 scholarship.

Hebert joins former Capital One Academic All-American Kevin Broderick, '93, as the only two student-athletes from Stonehill to receive the honor since the NCAA initiated the program in 1964. Hebert is one of 14 Division II student-athletes from the fall season and joins The College of Saint Rose women's soccer senior Kelly Guerin as the only two from the Northeast-10 Conference to receive the recognition.

Hebert recently put a cap on a four-year career with Stonehill's men's soccer program, helping guide the Skyhawks to their first postseason appearance since 1999 this fall. The Capital One Academic All-District I selection carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.93 as a finance major at the College and was a Rhodes Scholar candidate. He completed an internship at the Pentagon during the spring 2010 semester, during which he contributed to a military finance plan. Hebert is also a two-time NE-10 All-Academic selection and is a member of the Northeast-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Rolls.

Hebert has earned Stonehill's Saint Thomas Aquinas Medal for having the highest cumulative GPA on the men's soccer team, and was the 2008 recipient of the Fred C. Petti Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest GPA among Stonehill student-athletes for the academic year.

In 58 career games for Stonehill, Hebert tallied four goals and three assists. That includes a goal in 12 games during his senior season. His lone goal was a big one as he netted the match-winner in the Skyhawks 4-3 NE-10 victory over American International College.

To qualify for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.
