FOXBORO, Massachusetts (December 8, 2018) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team picked up its first overtime win this season with a 4-3 victory over non-conference foe Wesleyan University Saturday night at Foxboro Sports Center.
For Stonehill, (3-7-0), Cameron Wright, Jack Hall, Shamus Maloney, and Ryan Meade scored the goals for the Skyhawks. Hall also chipped in two assists, while Wright also registered an assist for a two-point game. Freshman goaltender Chase McKay recorded his first-collegiate victory with 37 saves.
Stonehill jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, as Hall scored his first goal of the season at 1:23 in the first period. Hall capitalized on a breakaway and Wright was able to extend the lead to two goals four minutes later, 2-0 at 5:03, as his shot from the right circle snuck past the Cardinals' George Blinick glove side. Wesleyan was able to cut the deficit to one, 2-1, at 13:26, when Danny Sorabella found the back of the cage for his second goal of the season. The Skyhawks went 0-1, as the Cardinals went 0-2 in power play opportunities in the first period and Wesleyan held a 13-10 shot advantage.
The Skyhawks were unable to take advantage of their second power play of the game, but about mid-way through the frame, Maloney knocked in his fifth goal of the season and 14th of his career at 10:13 off of a Cardinal penalty for too many men on the ice, extending Stonehill's lead back to two, 3-1. Wesleyan was able to cut the deficit again to one, 3-2, with a goal at 16:09 from Tyler Levine. Stonehill's defense remained strong as the Cardinals outshot the Skyhawks once again 15-4.
In the third period, Wesleyan was able to put the equalizer on the board, 3-3, as Walker Harris slid in the tally at 5:42. The Skyhawks' McKay was able to fend off the Cardinals with his 11 saves over the frame, sending Stonehill to their third overtime game of the season.

Two minutes into overtime, Stonehill's Meade was able to get the puck past Blinick as it went under his pads for the game-winning goal, his first in his career, and the Skyhawks first overtime victory since January 2017 when Stonehill defeated Conference rival Franklin Pierce University 3-2 in overtime.
Stonehill will wrap up the semester in Worcester, Massachusetts as they face Worcester State University with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference battle on Tuesday, December 11 at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
