Seniors Garrett White and Dan Graham register two goals apiece as Skyhawks remain undefeated in NE-10 play

WORCESTER, Mass. (January 23, 2016) – Stonehill College scored three times in the last 10 minutes of the first period to turn an early three-goal advantage into a 5-2 victory over Assumption College tonight in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at Buffone Arena.

Senior forwards Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs - AJHL) and Dan Graham (Billerica, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton) led the offensive effort with two goals apiece as the Skyhawks extended their regular season NE-10 winning streak to 25 games, spanning over three seasons .

White put Stonehill on the board at the 11:27 mark of the first period on assists by senior Willy Baker (Suffern, New York/The Hill School) and sophomore Tommy Newton (Hollis, New Hampshire Portland Jr. Pirates USPHL - Premier).  

White added his second strike of the game following an Assumption penalty just four minutes later when he buried home a shot for his fourth multi-point game of the season. Freshman Connor Collier (Madison, New Jersey/New Jersey Hitmen - USPHL) and senior Brian Furey (Quincy, Massachusetts/BC High) were credited with the assist. With 2:32 left in the period, Graham netted his first goal of the night to put Stonehill on top, 3-0 at the break.

Assumption answered back midway through the second period. The Greyhounds took advantage of a power-play, as senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Massachusetts/Northfield Mount Hermon) notched his NE-10 leading 19th goal of the season. Stonehill recovered four minutes later at the 10:55 mark of the second, when Graham fired a shot past Greyhound junior goaltender Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Massachusetts/The Governor's Academy) for his second goal of the night. Newton added an insurance goal with under three minutes to play in the second period, scoring his fourth goal of the season on an assist by sophomore Brendan White (North Reading, Massachusetts/Kimball Union Academy). The Greyhounds refused to go away though, as junior Kevin Murphy (North Conway, New Hampshire/Kennett) netted the second power play goal of the night for Assumption to make it 5-2 at the end of the second period.

Neither team found the back of the net in the third period, as freshman netminder William Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits - EHL) tallied 19 saves in the stanza, contributing to his career high 50 saves. The Cranston, Rhode Island native turned away 12 shots in the first, 19 in the second and 19 in the third to close the game out.

Stonehill (8-8-3, 4-0-1 NE-10) will return home to face off with NE-10 foe Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, January 26th for the annual Purple & White game at 7:00 p.m. Assumption (8-8-3, 1-4 NE-10) travels to Amherst on Tuesday, January 26th  for a scheduled puck drop at 7:00 p.m.
