Skyhawks Keep Rolling With 86-77 Win
Syracuse, N.Y. - Stonehill raced out to a 12-1 lead and senior Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass.) led a balanced attack with 19 points as the visiting Skyhawks overcame a monster effort from Laurence Ekperigin to win its sixth straight game, 86-77, over LeMoyne on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.
Five Skyhawks reached double figures in their highest scoring performance of the season as Stonehill improved to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast-10 action.
Ekperigin finished with his ninth straight double-double (28 points, 16 rebounds) but the Skyhawks connected on nearly 60 percent of their shots and committed a season-low six turnovers to aid in their offensive output.
Stonehill led wire to wire and their lead grew to as many as 20
points midway through the second half.
A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) scored 17
points, 13 in the second half, for the Skyhawks, while Nick
Smith (Colonia, N.J.) came off the bench to add 13.
Randall Stallworth (Toms River, N.J.) and
Mike Kernan (Medford, N.J.) each tallied 11
points.
The Skyhawks pushed their halftime lead out to 10 points over the
opening two minutes of the second half then used a 13-4 streak to
regain the momentum.
Le Moyne started chipping away at the deficit, pulling to within 11
at 72-61 but Skyhawks responded with seven consecutive points to go
up by 18 with 2:41 to go in the contest to put the game away.
Stonehill returns to action on Wednesday when they host St.
Michael's beginning at 7:30 p.m.
