February 4, 2007

Easton, Mass.-- Stonehill College Head Men's Basketball Coach David McLaughlin has been named as one of six coaches who will participate in the 2007 Collegiate Basketball Invitational from April 19-21 in Wadsworth, Ohio. The six-team tournament, which will be played in a round robin format, will consist of players selected from NCAA Division II and III as well as from NAIA squads.

The Collegiate Basketball Invitational is a major national basketball event that will gather the finest 60 senior men's basketball players from all of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The players will compete for the three days in front of professional basketball representatives, agents and the national media. At the conclusion of the event, 20 players will be chosen for an all-star game to be aired on national television.

"It is a privilege to have the opportunity to take part in the Collegiate Basketball Invitational," McLaughlin, in his fourth season as Stonehill's head coach, says. "The chance to coach and work with talented and well rounded student athletes from all over the country is unique. This tournament is an excellent showcase for some of the many special players at the Division, II, III, and NAIA levels."

McLaughlin will be joined on the six-member Collegiate Basketball Invitational coaching staff by Kevin Gamble of the University of Illinois, Geno Ford of Muskingum College, Danny Young of the University of Montevallo, Bill Brown of California University of Pennsylvania and Joe Lombardi of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

McLaughlin has guided Stonehill to 65 victories since taking over as the Skyhawks' head coach in January 2004, including last year's school record 27-7 campaign that resulted in the program's first NCAA Division II Northeast Regional championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II Final Four against eventual national champion Winona State. A 1997 graduate of Colby College, McLaughlin was named as both the 2005-2006 Northeast-10 Conference and National Association of Basketball Coaches Northeast Region Coach of the Year, as he guided Stonehill to its first league regular season crown in eight years as well.
