Stonehill Earns Reserve Champion Honors At Weekend Shows; Three Qualify For Regionals

EASTON, Mass. (November 14, 2022)- The Stonehill College competed in two shows this past weekend, their home show on Saturday, November 12 and the Boston College Show on Sunday, November 13. In each of those shows, the Skyhawks earned reserve champion honors as they came in second place at both shows as they earned 34 points on Saturday and 27 points on Sunday.

Stonehill College Show

  • At last Saturday's show, Grace Faddoul qualified for Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Regionals (IHSA) Regionals with her first-place finish in the limit division's flat event. To qualify for regionals, a ride must earn 36 points on the year, and after her event, Faddoul totaled 42. For Faddoul, it is the first time in her career qualifying for regionals. Also on the day, Faddoul took part in the limit division's over fences event where she took home second place. 
  • Lindsey Simmons also was one of three Skyhawks to take home first place Saturday as she earned the top spot in the limit division's flat event. Simmons also partook in the over-fences event for the limit division and claimed second place. 
  • Stonehill's final first-place finish on Saturday was courtesy of Kaitlyn Gilson who won in the walk trot division. 
  • Stonehill saw three riders (Emma WorsterKaylee McHale, and Sarah Herring) take second place in the intermediate flat and novice division. 
  • Ariel Goharzadeh had two top-five finishes on the day as she was fourth in both the over fences and flat events in the intermediate division. 
  • Rosalie Martin claimed fourth place in the novice division.
  • Madeline Ahern rounded out the riders on Saturday with fifth and sixth-place finishes in the open division's over fences and flat events respectively. 

Boston College Show

  • On Sunday, Gilson, and Simmons also qualified for IHSA Regionals. For Gilson, she took fourth place in the walk-trot division and is now at 36 points. It is her first time qualifying for regionals along with Faddoul. Meanwhile for Simmons, she finished fourth in the limit division's over-fences event which also gave her 36 points. Simmons is also a first-time qualifier for IHSA regionals as well. Simmons also partook in the limit division's flat event where she came in fifth.
  • Sunday saw two fist place finishers on the day as Ahern took the top spot in open division's over fences event and also grabbed third in the open division's flat event. Meanwhile, Haley Whittaker finished first in the limit division's flat event. 
  • Herring took came in second place for the intermediate division's over fences. Not far behind was Goharzadeh who took third. Goharzadeh also came in sixth for the flat event in the intermediate division. 
  • McHale finished within the top five (fourth) in the novice division on Sunday.
  • Making their IHSA debuts were both Hadley Gilmartin and Hannah Tetrault. Gilmartin competed in the pre-novice division and had a strong outing as she took third place. Whereas Tetrault had a top-five finosh (fifth) in the limit division's over fences event.
