Whittaker Named Reserve Champion In Novice Flat At IHSA National Championship

HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 5, 2022)- At the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championship, Stonehill College junior, Haley Whittaker took home Reserve Champion honors after competing in the novice flat event Thursday. 

At today's national championship, Whittaker was competing against 16 other riders and many of which were Division I institutions. After her turn in the event, Whittaker ended up with a second-place finish (second in her career) with Caitlyn Giese of Randolph-Macon College winning the event. Whittaker was the first equestrian rider for Stonehill to compete at the national level since Emma McConville did so in 2019. 

Overall, Whittaker has posted four first-place finishes in the novice flat event in her career. Her most recent win came at the IHSA Zone 1 Championships last April. Her other previous first-place finishes in the event came this season at the At the Zone 1, Region 4 Championships on Saturday, March 26, the Boston University Show (Oct. 16, 2021), and the Wheaton/Bridgewater State Show (March 12, 2022).  Her only other second-place finish in the novice flat was during the 2019-20 season in her IHSA debut at the Tufts University Show. (Oct. 12, 2019).

Stonehill wrapped up the 2021-22 season by finishing second in the IHSA Zone 1 Region 4 Standings.
