Women’s Cross Country Places 22nd at NCAA Championship

SACRAMENTO, California (November 23, 2019) - The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 2 in the East Regional U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA), concluded the season with a 22nd place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship hosted by California State, Sacramento and the Sacramento Sports Commission on Saturday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course Complex.

Stonehill totaled 563 points, as Adams State University won the Championship with 23 points and the individual champion, Stephanie Cotter, who crossed the finish line with a time of 19:19.5. Grand Valley State University was the runner up with 87 points, while Colorado School of Mines finished third with 133 points. The Skyhawks were the first team from the East Region to cross the finish line as Roberts Wesleyan College placed 28th with 669 points and Southern New Hampshire University took home 32nd with 821 points.

In her first NCAA Championship appearance, sophomore Siobhan O'Keefe led the Skyhawks and finished in 113th place in the six-kilometer race with a time of 21:48.8. Junior Sam Curtin, in her third appearance on the line, placed 116th, a career best mark, with a time of 21:49.7.

Seniors Alyssa Freeman and Jordan Callahan were the next Purple & White across the finish line. Freeman clocked in a time of 21:59.3 in her third appearance finishing in 136th place, while Callahan was right behind her in 137th place with a time of 22:01.4 in her second appearance.

Junior Jillian Howard was the final Skyhawk to earn the team points as she finished in 164th place out of 261 competitors with a time of 22:19.3. Senior Anna Lastra and junior Sophia Anderle rounded out the performances for the Skyhawks. Lastra placed 196th with a time of 22:44.0 and Anderle placed 208th with a time of 22:53.8.

Stonehill concluded the season with their 20th-straight appearance at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, after they earned their 16th NCAA Division II East Region Championship. To get to the East Region Championship, the Skyhawks earned their 18th Northeast-10 Conference Championship and 11th-straight title, as they women have now 13-straight Championships, including cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Over the past 19 NE10 Championships, the Stonehill women have won 18.
