EVANSVILLE, Ind. (November 18, 2017) – In their 18th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, the Stonehill College women's cross country team placed 24th out of 32 teams Saturday morning at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana.
Stonehill totaled 624 points for the 24th place finish, while Adams State University finished with the team title with 126 points. The Skyhawks finished as the top Northeast-10 Conference team, as Assumption College followed in 27th with 701 points.
After qualifying for the championship with a second-place finish at the East Regional Championship, Stonehill saw one All-America performance in senior captain Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy), as she crossed the finish line 27th in the field of 247 competitors. Knox collected her first-career All-America honor after clocking in with a time of 21:34.4, about a minute after the 2017 champion from Alaska Anchorage, Caroline Kurgat. The NE10 and East Regional Champion bested her mark from her sophomore and freshman year when she finished 108th and 123rd. respectively.
Junior Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) was the next Skyhawk across the finish line with a 146th place tally clocking in at 23:00.6. Cyr bested her mark from last season, as she finished 194th with a time of 23:37.6.

Sophomore Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) posted a 173rd-place finish in her first NCAA Championship appearance with a time of 23:16.6, while freshman Sam Curtin () wasn't far behind with a 177th place mark and a time of 23:18.4.
In her second NCAA Championship meet, sophomore Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) placed 199th with a time of 23:39.3. Senior captain Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) competed in her first NCAA Championship with a mark of 211thplace, clocking in at 23:58.0. Freshman Sophia Anderle (Peabody, Massachusetts/Peabody Veterans Memorial) also ran in her first championship clocking in at 26:55.5, good for 247th.
The Skyhawks wrapped up the cross country season tallying the 16th NE10 title in program history, finishing as runner-ups in the New England Championships, and taking three other titles throughout the season.
