Borofski registers programs' first two-time All-American performance
SAINT LEO, Fla. (November 19, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll and first in the East Regional poll, posted a 22nd place team finish at the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship at The Abbey Course in Saint Leo, Florida on Saturday, November 19.
Stonehill raced to 22nd place with 534 points, as Grand Valley State University won the team championship with 116 points, led by senior Kendra Foley, who completed the six-kilometer course in 20:01.8, also picking up the individual title. Adams State University placed second in the team standings with 139 points, while Western State University tallied 168 points, good for third place.

"Nicole ran unbelievably, running only 14 seconds slower than regionals on a much more difficult course and on a hot day," stated head coach Karen Boen. "The women as a team had a rough day. They just didn't have what it took today to represent how talented they are. After 19 seasons, I've learned you don't always accomplish what you know your capable of at this level. The men did and the women just have to hold their heads high knowing that up until today, they had a great season."
Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth) paced the Skyhawks with a 19th-place finish in a time of 21:08.01. This finish is a Stonehill Skyhawk first as she is now the first two-time All-American in program history. Borofski also picked up Stonehill's best mark in program history, as the previous best was when Kelly Chaisson finished 27th in 2006.
Boen stated, "Nicole accomplished more in her four years than anyone before her. She respects the level of talent at the NCAA level and always fights for her spot among the best in Division II."
The next Skyhawk to cross the finish line was freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) who tallied a time of 22:24.6, recording a 108th place mark in her first appearance. Senior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) wasn't far behind placing 141st with a time of 22:45.3 in her third appearance.
Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) tallied 165th with a time of 23:03.4 in her fourth appearance. Sophomore Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Mass./Bishop Feehan) was the next Skyhawk across the finish as she completed the six-kilometer course in 23:13.4, good for 177th among the field of 240 runners. McAdams and Hannon rounded out the scoring Skyhawks.
Junior Emily Knox (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) finished back-to-back in 193rd and 194th, with times of 23:37.5 and 23:37.6, respectively rounding out the Stonehill runners.
The Skyhawks earned their 17th-straight trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship by winning their 14th-straight NCAA Division II East Regional title.
