Skyhawks look to finish strong after NE-10 and Regional titles
EASTON, Mass. (November 17, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, will compete in its 17th consecutive NCAA Division II Championship this Saturday, November 19 in Saint Leo, Florida, hosted by Saint Leo University.

Stonehill captured its 14th-straight NCAA Division II East Regionals title two weekends ago, punching its 17th-straight ticket to the National Championship with 48 points, 42 points ahead of runner-up Assumption College. The Skyhawks also won the Northeast-10 Championship at home, in dominating fashion, placing seven runners in the top 15 overall, and finishing ahead of the runners-up by 42 points. Seven Stonehill athletes earned All-Conference accolades, senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) was named Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, and freshman Danika Wayss (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) was tabbed as the NE-10 Rookie of the Year. Head coach Karen Boen won her 14th Women's Coach of the Year Award as well. Borofski was also most recently named USTFCCCA Division II East Region Athlete of the Year, while Boen was tabbed USTFCCCA Division II East Region Coach of the Year, both for their second and 13th times, respectively.
Senior co-captain Borofski, a four-time All-Northeast-10 honoree, is coming off a career-best first-place finish at the NCAA East Regional and NE-10 Championships as she continues to be Stonehill's top performer this season. The Plymouth, Massachusetts native also finished first at the National Catholic Championship earlier this year, and placed first among DII runners at the New England Championships. At last year's National Championship, Borofski finished 39th overall.
Four out of seven women runners have made appearances at the championship before. Classmate and fellow captain Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) has recorded two top-10 finishes this season, as she came in 3rd place at the Ted Owens Invitational on September 26th and second overall at the NE-10 Championship. McAdams most recently finished 16th at the East Regional for her third All-Region accolade.
Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished a career-best seventh at the NE-10 Championships for her second All-Conference performance and 11th at the NCAA East Regional, collecting her third All-Region honor.
Junior Emily Knox (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) has posted two top-15 performances this year, including an 8th place tally at the Skyhawk Preview and a 12th-place mark in the college division at the National Catholic Championship. This will be the third year that Knox will appear in the National Championship.
Sophomore Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) crossed the finish line 17th at the Regional for her second All-Region honor of her career. Cyr picked up four top-16 finishes this season.
The Skyhawks have gotten strong rookie performances from freshmen Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan), who finished fifth and eighth at the conference meet to earn All-Conference first and second team honors. Hannon recorded her second All-Region honor after a 20th-place tally at the East Regional. Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) will also be making her first appearance at the championship, as she posted a 13th-place finish at the East Regional as the second freshmen across the line. The freshman has posted five top-15 performances this season.
