Borofski becomes the Skyhawks first two-time NE-10 Champion and Runner of the Year

EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked first in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Regional poll and 13^th in the national poll captured its eight-

straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship and 15^th in program history on Saturday afternoon in the six-kilometer race, hosted by the Skyhawks.

Stonehill scored 40 points to earn its eighth-straight conference championship in dominating fashion with all five of its scoring running finishing in the top 15 and nine inside the top 25. Assumption College tallied 82 points to finish as runners-up, 42 points behind the Skyhawks, while Bentley University was third (131). Merrimack College (149) and Southern Connecticut State University (173) rounded out the top five.

Along with a strong performance by the women's team, head coach Karen Boen was named NE-10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 14th time. 

The Stonehill women's cross country team dominated the field Sunday afternoon, placing seven runners in the top 15. Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) led the way for the Skyhawks, completing the course in a career best time of 21:26.2, 1:22 seconds faster than the runner up. Borofski best her 21:48.8 time from last year. The senior is now the first Skyhawk to win back-to-back NE-10 Championships and the first two-time Runner of the Year.

Senior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) finished runner up to Borofski, posting a time of 22:35.6, besting her 22:47.5 time from the 2015 NE-10 Championship. Buonfiglio placed sixth, for her second time being named to All-Conference first team.

Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Mass./Fryeburg Academy) was the first freshman across the finish line as she landed 10^th among the field with a time of 22:46.3. Sophomores Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Mackenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) were the next two Skyhawks to finish, earning times of 22:47.1 and 22:49.2, respectively, good for 11th and 12th place.

Freshman Danika Wayss (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) and senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) crossed the finish back-to-back placing 14^th and 15^th, respectively. Wayss was also named NE-10 Rookie of the Year as she clocked in at 22:56.9 , while McAdams finished with a time of 23:00.2.

Freshman Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) crossed the line with a time of 23:39.4, good for 24^th place, as sophomore Isabel Baker (Charlestown, R.I./Chariho) and junior Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) followed right behind. Baker tallied a time of 23:41.8 (25^th), as Hersom recorded a time of 23:43.7 (26^th) besting her 24:34.9 time from last years' championship.

Sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) finished in the top-30 with a time of 23:47.7, good for 28^th place, and besting her 23:54.5 time from last years' championship. Freshman Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Mass./Billerican Memorial) was the 12th Skyhawk to complete today's course, doing so in 23:54.7, good for 31^st overall.

Sophomore Jacqueline Cutillo (Foxboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) was the final Stonehill runner to cross the finish line as she tallied a 39^th-place mark in 24:19.0.

Following today's Northeast-10 Conference Championship, Stonehill returns to action on November 5th at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships, held at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and hosted by Franklin Pierce University.
