Borofski is named New England Champion
DORCHESTER, Mass. (October 8, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 13th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, tallied an eighth-place finish overall out of 35 teams comprised of Division I, II and III teams Saturday morning at the New England Championship.
The Skyhawks scored 220 points for its eighth-place mark, while University of New Hampshire tallied a first-place mark with a score of 71. Harvard crossed the finish second (137), as University of Vermont (152), Northeastern University (157), and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (159) followed in the top five. Dartmouth College (173) and The College of Holy Cross (187) beat out the Skyhawks for sixth and seventh place, respectively. UMass Amherst fell behind Stonehill with 272 points, while Sacred Heart University rounded out the top-10 finishing with 277 points.

Borofski makes school history as first New England Champion |
Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) led the Skyhawks with its only All-New England accolade as she became the first Stonehill cross country runner in its history to win the varsity New England Championship. Borofski crossed the finish with a career-best time of 17:28.7, almost 10 seconds before the second-place Northeastern runner.
Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingston, R.I./North Kingstown) was the second Stonehill runner to finish, placing 47th among the field of 234 at the five-kilometer race with a time of 18:46.5. Junior Emily Knox (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) was fell close behind tallying 51st (18:49.2) and 53rd (18:51.3), respectively. Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) was the next Skyhawk placing 68th with a time of 18:56.6.
Sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) and freshman Danika Wayss (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) were the final Stonehill women making the top 100. Caiazzi ran a time of 19:17.1 placing 91st, as Wayss crossed the line at 19:19.3 for a 96th-place tally.
"Overall, the women put forth a solid run," stated head coach Karen Boen. "Given that the women were coming off a heavy training stage, I was very happy that we were able to perform well."
In the women's sub-varsity five-kilometer race, Stonehill finished fourth among 15 teams tallying 99 points. University of Vermont took the title with 42 points as University of New Hampshire followed with 61 points and Dartmouth College took third with 64 points.

Freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) led the Skyhawks with her runner-up mark clocking in at 18:50.3. Sophomore Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Mass./Bishop Feehan) finished with a time of 19:03.5 for a 10th-place mark, as classmate Jacqueline Cutillo (Foxboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) followed finishing at 19:16.0 for a 17th-place tally. Freshmen Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) and Kacie Higgins (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) crossed the line back-to-back in 38th and 39th place with times of 19:40.9 and 19:41.9, respectively.
Jordan Callahan wasn't far behind, as a career-best time of 19:43.8 put her 42nd. Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) and Isabel Baker (Charlestown, R.I./Chariho) placed 50th and 63rd, respectively in the race. Hersom finished with a career-best time of 19:48.5, while Baker crossed the line at 20:00.9. Sophomore Taylor Landers (North Andover, Mass./Pingree School) was the final Skyhawk to make the top 100 as she placed 98th with a time of 20:26.0.
Sophomore Anna DeVitto (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) finished 105th with a time of 20:30.6, as freshman Alana Johnston (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) was the final Skyhawk to cross the finish with a career-best time of 20:50.0 tallying a 122nd mark.
Stonehill will take some time off as it prepares to host the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Saturday, October 22 for its Purple and White Event.
