#21 Stonehill Runs Away With Codfish Bowl


Senior captain Chelsea Bishop was Stonehill's top finisher in a race for the second time this season, placing third overall at today's Codfish Bowl.

Ten of twelve Skyhawks finish in top 20

BOSTON, Mass. (September 28, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 21st  in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, earned a first-place finish today at the 33rd Annual Codfish Bowl held at Franklin Park.

Senior captain Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), who was Stonehill's top finisher at the DII Challenge two weekends ago, accomplished the same feat today, finishing third overall with a time of 18:45. Senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), who won the Shacklette Invitational earlier this season, finished two spots behind Bishop in 19:10. Stonehill runners occupied the next three spots as well, with junior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) coming in sixth with a time of 19:22, senior Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) finishing seventh in 19:30, and junior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) placing eighth with a 19:34 mark.

Stonehill won the Codfish Bowl with a total of 29 points, well ahead of the second place team, Merrimack College (102 points). Rounding out the top five were Smith College (105 points), Greater Boston TC (108 points), and St. Thomas Aquinas (129 points). The Skyhawks have now won two of the three meets that they have competed in this year, the other being the Shacklette Invitational.

Freshman Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) was the last of six Skyhawks to finish in the top ten, placing tenth and clocking in at 19:37. Borofski was followed by freshman Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), who finished 11th with a time of 19:39, and junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy), who finished 12th, also in 19:39. Senior Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) placed 18th for Stonehill, finishing the five-kilometer course in 20:08, and sophomore Molly Hellman (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) finished 20th in 20:16, rounding out the ten Skyhawks to finish in the top 20 today. The final two participants from Stonehill to cross the finish line were freshman Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough), who finished 28th with a time of 20:38, and senior Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), who finished 51st in 21:18.

Stonehill will be off next weekend before returning to Franklin Park on October 12th to compete in the New England Championships.
