#14 Stonehill Places 12th Overall At New England Championships

McBride posts top performance for Skyhawks at Stanley Park

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 7, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 14th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II national poll and first in the East Regional poll, placed 12th overall out of 37 teams at the New England Championships at Stanley Park.

Stonehill ranked first overall among nine other NCAA Division II competing teams on the 5-kilometer course scoring 398 points. The Skyhawks finished ahead of Southern Connecticut State University (18th, 530), Bentley University (21st, 535) and American International College (25th, 598) among others.

Boston College finished first overall with 45 points earning its second-straight New England Championships team title. Boston University junior Monica Adler (Manchester, Mass./Beverly) placed first overall on the 5-kilometer layout with a time of 17:00.79, more than five seconds faster than the second place finisher, to claim individual honors.

The Skyhawks, who did not have their entire top-seven compete this afternoon, were led by senior captain Caroline McBride's (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) 33rd place performance. McBride posted a time of 18:08.43, nearly 34 seconds faster than her previous career best on a 5-kilometer course (18:42.42/NE-10 Championships/October 23, 2011).

Junior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) also posted a new personal best finishing right behind McBride in 34th place with a time of 18 minutes and 9.68-seconds. Bishop surpassed her previous career best of 18:27.94 which was also set at last year's Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Championships.

Senior Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) followed in 90th place with a time of 18:51.06, classmate Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) ranked 110th overall (19:03.93) and junior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) rounded out Stonehill's top-five with a 131st place finish (19:18.65).

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, October 20 as the Skyhawks look to capture their fourth-straight NE-10 championship in Syracuse, N.Y. at Le Moyne College.
