McBride Named NE-10 Athlete of the Week

Senior captain earns first career weekly honor

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2012) – Stonehill College senior captain Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) women's cross country Athlete of the Week, it was announced earlier today.

McBride placed 98th overall out of 360 competitors at the Brooks-Paul Short Run which featured 35 NCAA Division I programs with a time of 22:07 on the 6-kilometer course. McBride shattered her previous career best on a 6-kilometer layout by more than a minute (23:22).

McBride's efforts guided Stonehill to a 28th place finish overall in the women's 6-kilometer Gold Race as the Skyhawks scored 769 points to rank ahead of several NCAA Division I programs including the University of Massachusetts (891) and the College of Holy Cross (980), among others.

Earlier this season at the UMass Minutemen Invitational, McBride finished 16th overall in 19 minutes and 8.24-seconds over 5-kilometers to pace Stonehill to a second place finish overall.

McBride continues to build upon her successful outdoor track and field season which was highlighted by an All-New England selection in the 10,000-meter run. McBride placed second overall in the event (37:31.77) and shattered her school record by eight seconds. For her efforts, McBride collected U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region honors in the 10,000-meters along with accolades in the 5,000-meter run. Overall, McBride has garnered All-East Region honors six times in her career collecting four in the 5000-meter run and two for 10,000-meters.

The Skyhawks, ranked 18th overall in the USTFCCCA Division II national poll and first in the East Regional poll, return to action on Sunday, October 7 at the New England Championships in Westfield, Massachusetts at Stanley Park.
