#16 Stonehill Wins Shacklette Invitational

Brittany Venturo, Emily Anderson finish second and third to lead Skyhawks                 

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 10, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 16th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II preseason poll, finished with 32 points overall to win the 30th annual Shacklette Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Skyhawks had four out of their top five place in the top-10 overall led freshmen Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) who finished second on the 5-kilometer course in 19:41.4 and Emily Anderson's (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) third place finish in 19:47.2.

Chandler Ortega (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) of Merrimack took top individual honors winning the race in a time of 19 minutes and 37.9 seconds. As a team, Merrimack placed second overall with 51 points while Saint Rose was third with 65 points.

Sophomore Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) crossed the finish line in sixth place in 19:51.7 while teammate Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) took seventh overall in 19:54.8.

Freshman Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) rounded out the Skyhawks top-5 running a time of 20:27.6 for a 14th place finish.

Stonehill returns to action on Friday, September 16 at National Catholic Championships hosted by University of Notre Dame (South Bend, Ind.) at 3:30 p.m.
