Volleyball Falls to Bentley 3-1

EASTON, Massachusetts (October 11, 2019) – The Stonehill College volleyball team dropped its third-straight game with a 3-1 loss to Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University with set scores of 24-26, 15-25, 25-16, and 19-25 Friday night at Merkert Gymnasium.

Stonehill's (8-6, 1-2 NE10) Sophia Poveda and Clare Feeman each registered 11 kills to lead the team, while Poveda tallied her 13th double-double of her career with 12 digs and Feeman recorded a career high five blocks. Carly Russell  chipped in three aces, to match her career high, and 12 digs, while Rachel Dunlavy tallied 17 digs and Annika Pickard saw a career high of five blocks.

The Skyhawks saw their first lead of the match, 9-8, in the first game, as they held a four-point advantage, 20-16, before Bentley bounced back with a 10-4 run to take set one, 26-24.

The Falcons held the advantage throughout the second game, but Stonehill was able to tie the frame three times. Bentley saw its largest lead of 11, as they took the frame, 25-14, for a two-set lead, 2-0.

Stonehill saw its highest hitting percentage of the match in the third set averaging 0.344 as they took their lone set, 25-16, and Bentley averaged a 0.167 hitting clip. The Falcons saw the lead through 5-4, before the Skyhawks took over and ran with the momentum. Stonehill saw their largest lead of nine, five times through the final point where they won 25-16.

In the fourth game, Stonehill did not see the lead as Bentley won their 11th-straight match with a final set score of 25-19.

Stonehill will conclude its three-game homestand with a Northeast-10 Conference battle against Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, October 12 with a start time of 2:00 p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium.
