EASTON, Massachusetts (September 26, 2019) – The Stonehill College volleyball team competed in its Northeast-10 Conference opener at Merkert Gymnasium, as the Skyhawks defeated American International College, 3-2, Thursday night.

Stonehill's Abby Remick led the team with 18 kills, as Sophia Poveda recorded her 11th double-double of her career with 12 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Lauren Wilke tallied a season high of 53 assists, as sophomore Shannon Burgess was the third Skyhawk to register double-digit kills, recording 10 kill and a match-high four aces.

The first game went back-and-forth all the way through, as the Skyhawks saw the longest run of six points, off Burgess' serves, while the Yellow Jackets saw their longest run of four points. After 13 tied scores, Stonehill came up on top 26-24 after back-to-back aces from Carly Russell and a kill from Burgess.

With their largest lead of eight, 21-13, American International College quickly fell after Stonehill ran with a 10-3 rally to close the deficit to one, 23-24, before the Yellow Jackets took the final point, 25-23.

Stonehill saw its largest lead of two, 8-6, in the fourth game, before American International College took over the lead and extended its advantage to nine, 25-16, to tie the match at two games apiece.

Stonehill's .353 hitting percentage, which was the highest of the match, helped the Skyhawks fight past American International in the fifth game to come back after a tied contest with a 15-10 victory.
