Feeman tallied 10 kills to lead the way for the Skyhawks 

BLOOMFIELD, New Jersey (September 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College volleyball team defeated Bloomfield College and the University of the Sciences with scores of 3-0 on Saturday to make it three-straight wins to start the season.

Match 1: Stonehill 3 – Bloomfield 0

The Skyhawks' sophomore Clare Feeman led the way with 10 kills, while freshmen Basia Peragine and Amanda Maier followed with nine and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore Lauren Wilke registered her first double-double of the season and 11th of her career with 32 assists and 17 digs. Junior Sophia Poveda matched her career high of four aces.

Stonehill saw their highest hitting percentage of .294 during the first set as there was eight ties and five lead changes until the Skyhawks came away with the frame after an 11-2 rally, 25-16.

The Bears led for most of the second set, 14-7, until Stonehill tied the set twice, 20-20 and won with a 5-2 rally, 25-22.

The third set went back and forth once more, as Stonehill saw its largest lead of six, 18-12, before securing their second victory, 25-20.

Match 2: Stonehill 3 – USciences 0

Stonehill's Poveda was dominate in the second match with her 11 kills and nine digs, while Peragine followed with eight kills. Junior Jessica Givens tallied her fifth double-double of her career with 12 assists and 10 digs.

The Devils held a higher hitting percentage, .148, in the first frame than the Skyhawks' .129 hitting percentage, but Stonehill came from behind with a 7-1 rally to secure the first set, 25-22.

The score toggled back and forth in the second set, as both teams had their own rallies. Stonehill ran with six-straight points to lead USciences 23-18, but the Devils fought back with five points of their own for a score of 23-24. Poveda captured the winning point with her 10th kill of the match.

Stonehill captured the final set with ease as they held the advantage throughout the frame, winning 25-16.

Stonehill hosts University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, Mercy College, and Assumption College on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15 for their Skyhawk Invitational in Merkert Gymnasium. The Skyhawks will play the Mountain Cats in their home opener on Saturday with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
