Bentley Posts 3-1 Win Over Volleyball

Pennino records career-high eight blocks

EASTON, Mass. (October 3, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team fell to Bentley University, 3-1, on Tuesday night in Merkert Gymnasium with set scores of 25-22, 17-25, 7-25, 20-25.   

Stonehill (4-10, 1-3 NE10) junior Megan Pennino (Wantagh, New York/Wantagh) recorded a career-high eight blocks, while Allyson Hughes (Modesto, California/Big Valley Christian) tallied a team-high 13 kills. Senior Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) registered a match-high 26 digs and Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown) notched a career-high 14 digs.

Bentley's (12-5, 4-1 NE10) Xio Lopp recorded one of two double-doubles of the night recording 33 assists and 16 digs, while Shannon Kelly notched the other double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Rachel Bruno registered six blocks, as Lopp added five blocks to her total.

The Falcons tallied five-straight points to open up the first game, 5-0, but the Skyhawks fought back and came within one, 10-11, with a kill from Hughes. Stonehill went on a 10-1 rally, to give them their biggest lead of eight points, 20-12.  Bentley pressed Stonehill with a 10-3 run, 22-23, to come within one, but the Skyhawks took the first game with back-to-back points, 25-22.

Stonehill continued the momentum from the first set into the second set, with a four-point lead, 14-10, before Bentley racked up nine-straight points, for its largest lead of the game, 19-14. The Skyhawks were able to come within three, 19-17, but Bentley secured the frame with six points, 25-17, tying the match at one game each.

Stonehill was unable to find a rhythm in the third game, as Bentley took the second frame, 25-7, with its .609 hitting percentage, compared the Skyhawks' .080 hitting clip.

The Falcons once again came out with fire with a nine-point advantage to start off the fourth frame, 19-9. The Skyhawks would not give up and closed the deficit to two, 19-17, with eight-straight serves by DeLanty. Bentley took match point with a 6-3 run, 25-20, as the Falcons also had the advantage in kills tallying 11 to the Skyhawks 10 in the final frame.  

Stonehill travels to Vermont to face Northeast-10 Conference foe, Saint Michael's College on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m.
