Phillips Named To NE-10 All-Championship Team


Junior Delia Phillips was named to the NE-10 All-Championship team after averaging 4.43 kills and 3.00 digs per set over two matches as Stonehill reached the semifinal round.

EASTON, Mass. (November 19, 2014) – Stonehill College junior outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Championship team, the league announced at the conclusion of the tournament.

Phillips hit .225 with team-highs in both kills (4.43) and digs (3.00) per set as Stonehill advanced to the semifinal round for the second straight season and the fourth time in the last five years. The St. James, New York native also chipped in with four service aces (0.57/set) and three assists (0.43/set) to go with a block assist.

Phillips posted a .300 attack percentage with 22 kills and 17 digs for her 13th double-double of the season last Tuesday night as second-seeded Stonehill defeated seventh-seeded Southern New Hampshire University in the NE-10 quarterfinal round. She added two aces, two assists and a block assist in the four-set victory.

Phillips followed that effort up with nine kills, four digs, two aces and an assist in the Skyhawks' semifinal round loss to Bentley on Friday night.

The junior finished the regular season with the fourth highest kill total (320) and kills per set average (3.30) in the NE-10. She also recorded 2.63 digs per frame to go with 24 total blocks (four solo) and 21 service aces, earning All-NE-10 first team recognition for the second consecutive season.

 Phillips enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore in 2013, garnering All-NE-10 first team and AVCA All-East Region accolades after averaging 3.10 kills (3rd in NE-10) and 2.92 digs per frame. Her career totals include 876 kills (2.98/set), 711 digs (2.42/set), 79 blocks (0.27/set), 69 service aces (0.23/set), and 48 assists (0.16/set).

In the classroom, Phillips has been named to both the NE-10 and Athletic Director's Honor Rolls all four semesters at Stonehill.  

A 2012 graduate of Smithtown East High School in St. James New York, Phillips was a four-year letterwinner and varsity starter for head coach Lauren Geldmacher. As a senior, she earned All-State second team honors and helped lead Smithtown East to a Long Island Championship and a third place finish in the state volleyball tournament.

Stonehill, seeded third in the East Region, earned its second NCAA Tournament bid in program history on Sunday night. The Skyhawks are set to take on sixth-seeded LIU Post tomorrow at noon in opening round action at the University of Bridgeport's Hubbell Gymnasium in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
