St. James, N.Y. native posted three double-doubles in a 3-0 week for Skyhawks
EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2014) – Stonehill College junior outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Player of the Week for volleyball, it was announced today by the league office.
Phillips earns the honor for the first time in her career following a week in which she led the Skyhawks to three wins and averaged 3.69 kills and 2.92 digs per set to go with six service aces. The junior captain posted double-doubles in each of Stonehill's three matches while turning in a .211 attack clip and playing in all 13 sets.
Phillips opened her week by helping Stonehill improve to 4-0 in conference play with a 3-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday night. The St. James, New York native registered a season-high .386 attack percentage against the Penmen with a match-best 22 kills and just five errors in 44 total attempts. She also led the defensive effort with a team-high 15 digs, and paced all players with three service aces.
Phillips followed Tuesday night's effort with her third consecutive double-double in a 3-1 victory over regional rival the University of Bridgeport on Friday night. Her 13 digs, ten kills, and two aces helped Stonehill snap the Purple Knights' nine-match winning streak and give the Skyhawks their first victory against Bridgeport in over ten seasons.
Stonehill picked up its second straight non-conference victory on Saturday, a five-set triumph over the New York Institute of Technology to cap a 3-0 week and a 5-0 homestand for the Skyhawks. Phillips posted another strong all-around effort with 16 kills and ten digs, giving her four consecutive double-doubles and seven overall this season.

Through 16 matches, Phillips sits atop the NE-10 with 198 kills, while her 3.41 kills per set ranks third in the conference. She is also averaging 2.53 digs per frame to go with 13 service aces and 11 blocks. Phillips has recorded 10+ kills in ten matches this season, including a career-high matching 24 kills in a 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's College on September 27th.
As a junior last season, Phillips became the third student-athlete in the history of the Stonehill volleyball program to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region honors, joining senior setter Emily Iverson and former teammate Sydney Maxey, '14. In 2013, Phillips averaged a team-best 3.10 kills per set (third in NE-10), as well as 2.92 digs per frame, while totaling 35 service aces and 33 blocks for the Skyhawks. Phillips was the only player in the NE-10 to record over 300 kills and 300 digs in the regular season, and she led Stonehill with 15 double-doubles in 32 matches.
The 2013 NE-10 All-Conference first team selection has also gotten the job done in the classroom, as she has been named to both the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her four semesters at Stonehill.
A 2012 graduate of Smithtown East High School in St. James New York, Phillips was a four-year letterwinner and varsity starter for head coach Lauren Geldmacher. As a senior, Phillips earned All-State second team honors and helped lead Smithtown East to a Long Island Championship and a third place finish in the state volleyball tournament.
Stonehill (13-3, 4-0 NE-10) will look to build on its season-high six-match winning streak tonight, as the Skyhawks are set to take on Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire at 7:30 p.m. Stonehill is on the road again Saturday night at Franklin Pierce University, before returning to Merkert Gym on Friday, October 17th to host Assumption College.
