Senior setter Emily Iverson posted a match-high 28 assists to go with a team-best 11 digs in Stonehill's 3-0 loss at LIU Post today.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (September 20, 2014) – Stonehill College was dealt a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 26-24) defeat at LIU Post this afternoon in non-conference volleyball action at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) led all players with 28 assists to go with a team-high 11 digs, while freshman outside hitter Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Illinois/Benet Academy) and senior middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) each recorded seven kills. Playing in just her third collegiate match, Hitchcock also chipped in with four service aces and four digs.

The Skyhawks hit .155 as a team and were hampered by 23 attack errors, while LIU Post turned in a .261 mark with just ten errors in the match.

Junior Kelsey Weymouth paced the offense with eight kills.

Juniors Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colorado/Mesa Ridge) and Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) paced the Pioneer offense with eight kills each, and Hansen added six block assists on the defensive end.

Senior setter Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy/Liceo Linguistico Lucrezio Caro) tallied 15 assists and five digs, while freshman Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, New York/Hauppauge) finished with five kills, four blocks, and four digs for the Pioneers.

LIU Post cruised to an eight-point victory in the first set, never trailing and hitting .320 as a team in the process. With the score tied at three in the second frame, the Pioneers won seven consecutive points with the help of five aces from junior libero Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt) to go up 10-3. Stonehill eventually fought back to draw within four, at 21-17, but LIU Post closed it out with four straight points.

The Skyhawks won the first two points of the must-win third set, but the Pioneers took early control of the frame with a five-point run. Trailing 13-10, Stonehill mounted a comeback, winning nine straight points with the help of kills by freshmen Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown West) and Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minnesota/Belle Plaine) and junior Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/North Attleboro) to take a 19-13 lead. Weymouth led the Skyhawks with eight kills in the match.

The Pioneers countered with another run in the back-and-forth set, winning eight of the next ten points to even the score at 21. After winning three of the next four points on kills by Lee, the match appeared to be headed for a fourth set, but LIU Post put together one final four-point run, capped by a kill from Valenza, to end the contest.

Stonehill (7-3, 1-0 Northeast-10) will look to get back on track Tuesday night, when the Skyhawks return to NE-10 play at rival Bentley University. Following Tuesday's match, Stonehill is set to host Post University for its home opener on Friday night at Merkert Gym. LIU Post (6-6, 1-2 ECC) is back in action on Tuesday night against Dowling College.
