St. James, N.Y. native becomes third student-athlete in program history to garner AVCA accolades

EASTON, Mass. (December 4, 2013) – Stonehill College sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region Team, it was announced today.
Stonehill was led all season by Phillips, who averaged a team-best 3.10 kills per set (third in NE-10), as well as 2.92 digs per set, while totaling 35 service aces and 33 blocks for the Skyhawks. Phillips was the only player in the Northeast-10 to record over 300 kills and 300 digs in the regular season, and she led Stonehill with 15 double-doubles in 32 matches in 2013.
Stonehill finished 17-13 in the regular season and earned its fourth straight trip to the NE-10 Championship. The sixth-seeded Skyhawks came from behind to beat Bentley on the road on November 19th in the quarterfinal match before dropping the semifinal contest to Merrimack on November 22nd.
In Stonehill's 3-2 victory over NE-10 rival Southern Connecticut State on October 26th, the sophomore hit .327 with a season-high 24 kills, season-high tying 19 digs, two aces and two blocks. In an early season 3-1 win over the University of the Sciences, she hit .424 with 19 kills, ten digs, eight aces, and four blocks, for a season-high 29.5 points.
Phillips also reached 500 career kills in Stonehill's NE-10 quarterfinal win over Bentley. In that contest, she recorded 15 kills and nine digs as the Skyhawks fought off a 2-0 set deficit and two match points in the fourth frame to complete a 3-2 comeback over the Falcons.
Phillips, who was also named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team last week, becomes the third Stonehill student-athlete in program history to be named to the AVCA All-East Region team. In 2011, current senior captain Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) and junior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) earned All East-Region accolades from the AVCA following Stonehill's 27-8 season in which the Skyhawks made their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
